Seongbuk Multicultural Food Festival was made to commemorate May 21, the World Multi-cultural Day designated by the UN. It also aims to expand the exchanges among the foreign residents in Korea and help understand the cultural diversities among different races, people and nations of the world by featuring location of Seongbuk-dong with foreign embassies in Seoul numbering as many as 31. |
| The festival is differentiated with other food festivals in the point that it encourages the participation of foreign residents and married immigrants instead of restaurants or professional cooks, and the programs are made in connection with a number of cultural assets located at Seongbuk-dong, the festival place. | |
| The first Multicultural Food Festival, which took place at Seongbukdong-gil on May 25, 2008, had the participation from 15 foreign countries including Peru, Norway and India, which showed off their traditional food and folk music. About 10,000 local and foreign people participated in the festival, making it a great success. |
